On Heart
2016
This project draws inspiration from an experiment on psychopathy conducted by behavioural scientist Robert D. Hare. He noticed that while the majority of individuals reacts to emotional words (like, for instance, love, pain, mother) more rapidly and more intensely than to relatively neutral words (like, for example, sixteen, table, giraffe), sociopathic subjects respond to emotionally charged words no differently from neutral words. Emotional words are not more meaningful or deeply coded by their brains than any other words.
Viewers are provided a stethoscope while watching the video projected on the wall.
They would be able to listen to the variation of their heartbeats and/or of the ones of the person they came to the exhibition with.
