A victim of the Stockholm syndrome has two conflicting impulses inside themselves ('I feel bad here' vs 'I do not want to leave'). In the installation Paralysis these instincts are represented by two yellow materials: velvet and fly tape for insects such as aphids, whiteflies or leaf miners. After a period of time in captivity the victim becomes scared of the external world and is not able to leave the abductor even having the chance to. So the ripped wallpaper pattern on the structures symbolizes the prison of the mind they fell into. The color yellow was chosen because, during the 12th century, it came to be seen as a degraded gold and hence a color of deterioration. It meant lie and fabrication.
